Support & Frequently Asked Questions
A simple, offline-first check register and ledger. Track transactions, recurring bills, splits, and more — all on your iPhone.
Tap the + button in the top-right corner of the Register tab. If you haven't created an account yet, the app will walk you through creating one first. Pick deposit or withdrawal, enter an amount, and tap Save.
Accounts let you keep separate registers — for example, one for Checking and one for Savings. Each account has its own running balance. You can switch between them using the carousel at the top of the Register, or choose "All Accounts" to see everything together.
Yes. Pocket Register is offline-first. All your data is stored on your device. iCloud sync and the web companion are optional — the app works perfectly fine without either.
Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks:
No. Pro is a one-time purchase — you pay once and keep it forever. There are no recurring charges for the iPhone app.
The free version supports up to 300 transactions, limited splits (2 per transaction), and up to 3 Quick Fill templates. Ads are shown in the free version. Upgrading to Pro removes all limits and ads.
When you create a recurring transaction (daily, weekly, biweekly, twice a month, monthly, or yearly), the app automatically generates new instances as each date arrives. The original entry acts as the "anchor" — its amount is used as the template for future occurrences.
When you edit a recurring transaction's amount and save, you'll be asked whether the change applies to just that one instance or to that instance and all future ones. Choosing "this and all future" updates every occurrence from that date forward, plus the anchor, so the recurring generator uses the new amount going forward.
Each recurring series is identified by its payee, memo, account, and frequency. As long as those are different, your recurring transactions are treated as separate series and won't interfere with each other.
The semimonthly option lets you set two days per month — for example, the 1st and 15th. The app generates an occurrence on each of those days every month.
The web companion at pocketregister.app lets you view and edit your register from a desktop browser. It syncs with your iPhone over a secure connection. It also offers planning features like a Payday Plan, Bills page, and Debt payoff projections.
The Pro purchase covers the iPhone app. The web companion has its own free trial and subscription — they're separate. You don't need the web companion to use Pro features on your phone, and you don't need Pro to try the web companion.
These pull from your Pocket Register recurring transactions. If you tag a recurring transaction as a "Bill" or "Debt" in the recurring editor on your phone, it shows up on the corresponding web page. These are not connected to the standalone Bills Due Tracker app — that's a separate app.
iCloud sync keeps your data in sync across multiple Apple devices (e.g. iPhone and iPad) using Apple's iCloud. It's included with Pro and requires no sign-in beyond your Apple ID.
Web companion sync sends your data to pocketregister.app so you can access it from a desktop browser. It requires signing in with Apple on the web.
They're independent — you can use one, both, or neither.
Go to Settings > Data & Backup > Export, Backup, & Clear. You can export a standard CSV, or with Pro, use Advanced CSV with custom profiles, split columns, and Excel/YNAB-friendly formats.
Archiving moves older, reconciled transactions out of your active register to keep it fast. Your balance doesn't change — the archived total is preserved. You can find this under Settings > Data & Backup > Archive Older Entries.
By default, no. All data lives on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, it goes through Apple's iCloud. If you connect the web companion, your data syncs to pocketregister.app. No data is collected or sold for advertising purposes.
Reconcile helps you match your register against a bank statement. Enable it in Settings > Reconcile. You'll see Cleared/Uncleared summary pills under your balance, and a Reconcile button that walks you through comparing your register to your statement total.
Marking a transaction as "cleared" means your bank has posted it. It's a way to track which transactions have actually gone through versus which are still pending.
No. They're separate apps by the same developer. Pocket Register is a check register/ledger for tracking transactions and balances. Bills Due Tracker is a standalone app for tracking bill due dates and reminders. They don't share data, but they work well together.
The Plan tab shows a forward-looking projection of your balance based on your recurring transactions. It includes upcoming bills, debts, and a "safe to spend" estimate. It appears automatically once you add a recurring transaction, or you can show/hide it manually in Settings > Planning.
Yes. Go to Settings > Privacy and turn on "Require Face ID to open." The app will ask for Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode each time you open it.
